Forward After 50
Why read this book?
Reviews
Forward After Fifty is the book I needed back in 2015 when my life went pear-shaped. It’s so easy to think that at 50+ (or, in my case, 45+), you’re washed up, and too old to start again. Through school and college, I worked hard to achieve the relevant grades to make a good foundation for a career. Only when reaching middle age, BAM! I lost the job I loved through no fault of my own, and suddenly it felt like I was left on the scrap heap. Does any of this sound familiar to you? There are many others out there, young, energetic, and ready to take on the world, and that’s great, but what about those of us who have been there, done that, and still have so much more to give the world?
Reading Forward After Fifty is a wonderful book that shows the reader that there is so much we can do regardless of age. Forget the old misconceptions that once reaching a certain age, our life is over. Rebecca Ronane is a perfect example of this. She reinvented herself and, as a consequence, is happier and more contented than she’s ever been.
If like both Rebecca and me, the reader finds themselves having to reevaluate their life following life-changing circumstances such as health and career, then this book is a must-read.
I found chapter six, entitled Career Reboot, especially motivating. I so needed this eight years ago! Then there’s the old gem – People pleasing. Yes, there are so many of us out there who are guilty of this. It’s not selfish to think about your own feelings. You matter too!
If you haven’t already guessed, I loved this book. It’s inspirational, motivational, and packed full of excellent advice. This is a book I shall read again and again.
My rating:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This a reassuring read for those women who have started to feel invisible as they age! I liked the style of this book – plenty of information without judgement or condescension.
Four Stars
The best thing about this great book is that Rebecca’s positivity shines out from the pages. Not in a saccharine, ‘Polly-Anna’ style, but in a practical, upbeat manner that also addresses the reader’s worries and concerns as she enters or navigates the over-50s stage of life.
Jam-packed with top tips and actions to take, this isn’t a ‘throw your whole life in the bin and start again’ manifesto, but rather a hand-holding walk through the steps to grab hold of the next phase of life and NOT viewing over 50 as the final stage of life.
Busting the myths about- and negativity around ageing will take time, but Rebecca encourages us all to be torch-bearers in our own lives to create a ripple effect for others. That ripple, under her impressive leadership, will become a tsunami 🌊
I will recommend and pass this book around amongst family and friends; we could all do with a dose of the can-do vibe that #ForwardAfterFifty brings to the party.
What a book! I wish I had had this a few years back when I encountered a new phase of my life.
Reaching 50 & being on the other side of 50 needn’t be something to fear. Rebecca quite simply gives the advice to retrain our thought process on life after 50. She flips it on the other side, changing how we think. Focus on the positives and run with it. A great motivational book.
What are you telling yourself about being over 50? The story you tell yourself will inform the life you’re creating.

Rebecca Ronane embraced her reinvention journey after fifty when she chose to feel empowered and unstoppable. Rejecting the negativity surrounding ageing, she set up a coaching business, and now in her mid-sixties, she’s written this debut book.
She wants women to reclaim their superpowers, stop people-pleasing and embrace ageing after fifty and beyond. Her experiences of unexpected life changes and unhappy surprises after fifty inspired her to change her mindset

I know, I am not that close to 50 but this book has opened my eyes in so many ways. Women are strong and honestly, age is just a number! If we have the right mindsets, we could rule the world 💪
As a 50-something woman, I was very interested to read this book, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed! Firstly, the author, Rebecca Ronane herself, is an inspiring woman to read about. Her life did not go as planned, or even hoped, on more than one occasion in her life, but the changes and adaptations she made to ‘redirect’ her journey are most definitely a roadmap of sorts to illustrate what can be achieved. I like the no-nonsense way the book is written and found it really enjoyable to read, there’s humour and lighter moments throughout the book, although be prepared to face the ‘no nonsense’ writing because of being faced head-on with the realisation that I was, in fact, ageist about myself, that took a moment to process. I like the way the book is broken down, and the sections it was divided into made sense to me. I loved all the little quotes that are dotted throughout the book, little bite sized pieces of shared wisdom. Having read the book, I am a newly formed ‘Rising Reinventor’ and I am putting on my cape and going to fly towards the new horizons that I will create for myself! Forward After 50 is a great book and I absolutely recommend it to all of my fellow quinquagenarians and above.
Absolutely love this! More success stories need to be out their for ppl achieving there goals later in life. ————- For fans of Why Has Nobody Told Me This Before by Julie Smith and Living the Life More Fabulous by Tricia Cusden Forward After 50 sets out to banish preconceptions about ageing by helping women discover their inner super-powers Life expectancy in the UK is increasing, yet we still live in an ageist society. Rebecca Ronane aims to subvert these prejudices and reverse the expectations surrounding getting older. She knows that women over fifty, with their accumulated life experience and knowledge, are a force to be reckoned with. Her book, Forward After 50, is aimed at women seeking to reinvent themselves as retirement looms and the children fly the nest. This is the time, Ronane, argues, to explore new opportunities and to chase the dreams that have been sitting on the back-burner for years. But it all starts with unlearning what society dictates. This book helps reframe ageing in the minds of women over 50 by offering insights into the ways they might be limiting themselves. It’s time, she argues, to rethink how we talk about ageing and to associate getting older with regeneration, rather than degeneration. The world, Ronane says, may not be prepared for a surge of healthy, innovative, passionate women, but they are here nonetheless! Five Stars
I recently celebrated my 50th birthday and unlike some of my friends who were dreading the big 5-0, I am actually embracing growing older. I’m not quite sure where 50 years have gone, and I’m certainly not ready for slowing down anytime soon – if anything I’m doing more than I ever have, and I try to think more about myself than I did, which is a lot easier now my children are older. I’m really enjoying this new phase of my life as I’ve much more confidence than I did in my 20s and a bit more money (well I did until the cost of living crisis hit!)
Whilst I already have a forward-thinking attitude, I still learned a lot from @rebeccaronane new book – Forward After 50. This inspiring book shows women that there is so much to look forward to and just because we are 50 it doesn’t mean we’re over the hill. Rebecca offers inspiring and practical advice to help make these changes happen.
The book is split into two parts – Part 1 explores ageist views and how your values and beliefs can shape your life and Part 2 explores how you can invent yourself by reviewing your work, time, and independence.
Each part is split into chapters with plenty of humour to keep you going, along with inspirational quotes to help you on your journey. I especially liked the chapter in part 1 about Mindset – I have always been a people pleaser and the book gave me the confidence to start saying no which was difficult at first but the more I say no the easier it has become. Initially, I felt guilty, but now I find it quite liberating and wish I had read Rebecca’s book sooner as I have wasted so much time doing things I didn’t want to do for fear of upsetting someone.
Rebecca fills the reader’s mind with all the tools they need to reinvent themselves and helps them to realise that there is life after 50. In short, it’s a book I’ll be referring back to regularly to reinforce and remind me that it’s okay to say no, and it’s ok to be selfish and to chase those dreams now!
The perfect book to start off the year: Forward After Fifty: The Rising Reinventors by @rebeccaronane!
I enjoyed the author’s fresh approach to reinventing oneself in life’s later years and her challenge to negative cultural messaging around ageing.
She invites us to think differently, draw on our values, and plan for a joyful and fruitful period.
